An introduction from the Headteacher...

Thank  you for your interest in King Edward VI School, Lichfield. I hope that our website provides you with a flavour of what the school does and the things that we value. Our prospectus together with our supplementary 'Information Booklet' contains a variety of information about the school.

The students of King Edward VI School all deserve the very best that we can provide. Whatever the interests or abilities of our students, we try to provide opportunities. We are a school which takes pride in its achievements and traditions. We recognise our place as an important part of the community and environment. We emphasise the quality of learning, teaching and student experiences.Johnson Offices

One of the main features of the school is that our students want to be successful and are encouraged to achieve their best. We have high expectations of what is possible. Parents certainly support our drive for high standards and support children both with progress in school work and in their extracurricular activities.

In 1995 King Edward VI School achieved the prestigious "Investor in People" Award, an award which is only given to organisations which meet demanding criteria in relation to the induction and on-going professional development of all staff. In 1998 the school was successful in securing the award for a second three-year term. In June 2002 the school was successful for a third time in being recognised for a further three years as an Investor in People, receiving a report which spoke highly of its procedure for the professional development of all staff.

King Edward VI School has achieved recognition as a Health Promoting School and is currently working to secure this award for a second time. We have also achieved Level 1 of "Dyslexia Friendly School Status" and are currently working towards Level 2.

When inspected under the regulations of the Office for Standards in Education, various comments were made about the main features of the school. King Edward VI School was described as ‘a very popular school at which pupils and students attain very high standards’. It was also confirmed that ‘the school has a good record of success in sporting, drama and musical activities’. We were also pleased to see that other aspects of what we know about the school were emphasised — ‘attendance is excellent’ and ‘standards of behaviour are excellent’.

We are a school that continues to develop. We want to keep on raising our standards of achievement. The traditions and past history of this school are also valued.

I hope that you want to join the community of our school and support the same objectives that we value.
