Assignment 1 - Health & Safety Issues

Aim:
To appreciate and demonstrate an understanding
of the issues relating to the school's Health & Safety needs in the ICT work
environment.
The Head teacher has asked you to
produce a Health and
Safety leaflet,aimed specifically at Key Stage 4
students. It must cover all of the following targets.
This assignment consists of four
targets.
The first and second targets require you
to search the internet and extract information.
The third target requires you to produce a small risk assessment of the
ICT work areas.
The fourth target is for you to explain the editing you have done.
All targets should be achieved using a
recognised desktop publishing package (eg. MS Publisher).
At the end of the assignment you will be
expected to hand in one A4 leaflet plus an annotated copy.
For successful completion of this
assignment you must include the following :-
TARGETS
A leaflet prepared for a the Headteacher of
a school detailing ;
- the responsibilities of the school
outlined in the Display Screen Equipment Regulations 1992. The
Headteacher also wants you to include safety advice for:-
- a student who wears glasses,
- a student taking prescribed medicines,
- and an expectant teacher (check Internet sites for information
eg http://www.hse.gov.uk/).
- how a student can
adjust their workstation, to avoid potential health problems such as:-
- eye strain,
- headaches
- and strained joints (check Internet sites for information. eg
http://www.hse.gov.uk/).
- outline good Health
& Safety practice in the school's ICT rooms. The leaflet should also
outline up to 3 areas for improvement, with a proposed solution.
- a second copy of the
leaflet should be included which has been annotated explaining the
editing you have done, eg. font size, font type, imported image
properties, page numbering if appropriate, etc.
Marking of the Assignments :-
It is intended that marking will be based
on a National Curriculum Levels rather than as a subjective mark out of 10
or a grade.
The assessment should be based entirely on
the final part of the assignment ie the leaflet
The following levels will be awarded as appropriate :-
Level 4 if student
has: |
 | simply cut and pasted (or typed in directly)
textual information or images from ONE
source such as CD-ROM or Internet |
 | covered all aspects/targets of the specified
assignment |

Level 5 if student
has: |
 | cut and pasted textual information and images
from MORE THAN ONE source
such as CD-ROM or Internet |
 | covered all aspects/targets of the specified
assignment |
 | and added their own text and/or images, etc.

Level 6 if student
has: |
 | cut and pasted textual information and images
from MORE THAN ONE
source such as CD-ROM or Internet |
 | covered all aspects/targets of the specified
assignment |
 | and added their own text |
 | and added their own images |
 | and clearly targeted it for a specific
audience and successfully achieved that goal.

has: |

Late submission
of assignments :-
 | assignments will be accepted up to 1 week
after the stated deadline, however, the final mark will be
downgraded one level |
 | assignments submitted after the 1 week
"allowance" will not be graded and a 0 will be entered on the
students report |
